Dead Sea

A narrative AI short film — the tale of a doomed pirate captain, assembled from the best AI tools on the high seas.

About the film

Dead Sea is a narrative AI short film — the tale of a doomed pirate captain. The intent was to showcase how the best AI tools of the moment could be assembled into a single coherent narrative. There’s a storm on the horizon.

How it was made

Character design and visual tone were established in Midjourney, using its personalization function to lock in consistent aesthetics across shots. Video generation pulled from Kling, Luma Labs (Dream Machine), and Runway Gen 3 — each used for what they did best at the time.

Eleven Labs handled AI character voices and sound effects. Lip sync was produced from those voice assets, though it was the weakest aspect of the pipeline. Topaz Video was used for upscaling. Music came from Suno and Udio.

The making-of masterclass below covers the full journey: concept, character design, video generation, the challenges and workarounds, the cost breakdown, and an honest comparison to traditional production methods.
